Meet Julie, a major account sales representative for The Charlotte Observer.
Meet Alex, a strategic metal trader for Caledonian Alloys.
How did Alex and Julie meet each other? At two separate birthday bashes at Ri-Ra’s pub in uptown Charlotte.
Although Alex and Julie were celebrating with separate sets of friends, Julie immediately caught Alex’s eye. He headed across the bar to chat her up, even though he was living in Washington, D.C., at the time.
Since they lived hundreds of miles apart, they exchanged phone numbers to keep in touch.
Conversations on the phone soon led to dating, and dating lead to love.
This past September, the couple headed to Las Vegas for Julie’s cousin’s wedding. While Julie is very close to her family, they live all over the United States, so it’s rare that her entire family gets to see each other all at once.
Alex and Julie celebrated her cousin’s wonderful wedding weekend with friends and family. So that he wouldn’t overshadow Julie’s cousin’s big day, Alex waited until Sunday morning to pop the question. An overjoyed Julie not only said “yes,” she also got to tell her family all at once, in person.
Since Alex waited until all of the cousin’s wedding festivities had ended, the couple spent all day Sunday celebrating the happy news with her family.
That particular Sunday held was special to Alex and Julie for another reason: It’s the first Sunday of the NFL season, their favorite day of the year. Ironically, his Atlanta Flacons was playing her Chicago Bears that day. In their first photo as an engaged couple, they are each wearing their team’s jerseys. (FYI: Da Bear’s won.)
“That weekend was filled with lots of laughs and tears of joy,” the couple said. “It is a weekend we will never forget.”
Another weekend they’ll never forget: Their own wedding celebration, here in Charlotte.
“We both have lived many places in our lives, but now we call Charlotte home,” they said. “So to share our special day with our family and friends from all over, and really highlight uptown Charlotte, was a dream come true. The Mint Museum was a perfect location. Plus, the Taste of Charlotte was going on all weekend long. So not only did our guests enjoy the Taste of Charlotte, but so did the bridal party. After the ceremony and before the reception, we walked through the streets, danced to live music, enjoyed the booths, and took pictures.
“It was almost as if the Taste of Charlotte were put on for us. Strangers were congratulating and cheering us on. It was surreal.
Then, after the reception was over, all of the wedding guests danced, laughed and played the whole walk back to the Omni Hotel. The bride and groom, even went down a large inflatable slide for the finale! It was a night they would never forget.
“Our wedding was the best day of our lives. We were surrounded by so much love from our family and friends. We truly feel blessed.”
Their wedding was followed by an equally delightful honeymoon: seven heavenly days in Jamaica.
