Meet Tonya, a beautiful student of social work at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Sweet and perky, Tonya is serious about her studies and making a difference in the world.
Now, meet Alan, a strapping hard-working small business owner. He’s a muscular guy who towers over most men who meet him. But kindness radiates from him, and he loves meeting new people. After a hard day at work, he was ready to relax.
Thanks to the coincidence of a lifetime, Alan and Tonya chose the same place to unwind after a long day. It was the elegant but laid-back Cosmos in Ballantyne, an upscale Charlotte nightspot.
And when Tonya walked in, Alan looked up.
Once the two locked eyes across a crowded room, their love story began.
Fast forward to Christmas. Alan had a the gift of a lifetime for Tonya, but she had absolutely no idea it was coming.
“Alan proposed on Christmas Eve with all of our friends and family there to celebrate,” Tonya confided. “With the help of friends, he was able to pull it off without any suspicions!”
Tonya went upstairs for a moment to talk with a friend, and when she came back downstairs Alan had made sure “their” song was playing: “Marry Me.”
“Alan told me there was a special ornament on the Christmas tree for me,” Tonya said. “As I walked to the tree, I noticed rose petals in the shape of a heart on the floor. I was still confused and wasn’t really understanding what was happening!”
When Tonya opened the ornament in the shape of a present, there was a ring inside.
“He waited a moment, then told me the ring wasn’t real. At that point, I was really confused!”
What was going on? As most women would be at this point, Tonya was now thoroughly bewildered.
“Then he got down on one knee and proposed with the real ring!” Tonya said.
The couple married and held a lovely reception at The Rice Mill, the beautiful historic building in Charleston, S.C. Guests received pashmina shawls and milk chocolate pecan gophers from Charleston’s Candy Kitchen. After a lovely wedding in South Carolina’s loveliest, most historic city, Tonya and Alan spent a glorious honeymoon in Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic.
